Breaking the Mold Isnt Easy
Everybody is different. We are all born different, most of us are very different. We all live under different circumstances, we grow up in different environments, we react in different ways to our surroundings, and yet there seems to be some invisible force that tries to make us all fit into one mold, to conform, to aim for average, ordinary, run-of-the-mill.
Some people actually like that. They don't want to be different. They don't want to stand out from the crowd. They don't want to be noticed. They prefer the 9-5 style, working for a boss rather than being their own boss. The more they are like the "Joneses", the more they blend in, the happier they are. The less different they are, the more at ease they are, the less nervous they feel. They enjoy the mold. Life is easy that way. At least so they think.
Staying stagnant or breaking through?
There are some advantages to this, to fitting into the mold. You will get less opposition that way. People in general are more likely to accept those who are like them. If you are different, don't be surprised if some people keep you at arm's length, get jealous of you or even try to hinder your progress. Maybe people you have known for years and who were your friends will keep away if you try to break out of the mold you were in before. So if you like it the way it is, if you prefer stagnant to change, if your chief aim is safety and security, stop reading. This will not be for you. Stay where you are, stay in your mold and keep to those who are like you. Trust me, you will be happier that way.
It ain't easy to break out of a mold, but if you do your work, people will ultimately see what you're capable of. Too often, people find it easier to make assumptions and stick with what they believe. They put you in a place and it makes their job easier. The good people constantly search for something different. – Christopher Meloni
Now don't get me wrong, molds are important. They are used all the time, every day, and we could not live without them. Just looking around the room here, there is the printer, the monitor, the keys on the keyboard I am typing on, plastic shelves, the phone, the dustbin and the list goes on. They were made with the help of molds.
Thousands of these items were made just the same. Things that are made in molds are everywhere. Many of these items are useful, they are good, and they are cheap. Often you buy them by the dozen. They are mass-produced. But I don't think I am mass-produced, and I don't believe you are either. We are individuals. Inside each of us there lies a unique dream, a vision, a distinctive desire to do something more than the norm, out of the ordinary. It does not always have to be big or grand, but it is not something you can mass produce, that can be made in a mold.
Believe it or not, some people like to be different. They don't want to be like everyone else. They don't like same old, same old. If that is how you feel, if you are unhappy with staying in a mold, if you are not content to keep the status quo, if you want to venture out and try something new, find out what is on the other side of the mountain, look beyond the horizon, by all means, read on. Then you are in good company. That is the kind of people who make history. They are the ones who create opportunities for themselves, and for the rest of the world. They are the people who are successful, who make their dreams come true. Their lives are far from easy, they are full of challenges to be overcome, difficulties and problems to find solutions to, and sometimes it feels like they have to fight hell and high water to get to where they are going. But their lives are also exciting and fun. There is never a dull moment. They feel alive, vibrant, they actually thrive on adversity.
But you can't have such a life if you resist change and just stay in the mold. You are moldable, yes, but you should not leave all the molding to others. You need to take an active role in your own development, in what is molding and shaping you. That is what freedom is. It is maybe not the easiest way there is, I know, but if you are like me and you know you don't want to fit in a mold made by others, you will never be really happy and fulfilled until you break out of the old mold, break free, and start living your own life.
So what are you waiting for? Don't wait for things to change. Don't wait for the right circumstance to come around. Don't wait for some transformation to happen to you. The longer you wait, the greater the chances are that you will become a victim of the mold blob. In the end you will stagnate and solidify.
Instead, why don't you create the circumstances you need. It does not matter if you are looking to start a home business, open a new company, change your daily or weekly routine, or simply change the furniture around. Take charge. You be the transformation you are looking for, you be the change you are waiting for. Today is the best day of your life to forge ahead, to form something new, break free from of old ruts, and break out of the mold. Do it today, and don't delay.
